Oklahoma Library Association
University and College Division
Annual Report
July, 2001 - April, 2002
The year has been a busy one for the University and College
Division. One of the big events of the year was our electronic
chat room meeting! Using a chat room we borrowed from LED, many
of us logged on and actually held our meeting via the Internet.
Our goal was to give more people a chance to participate and to
alleviate the highway requirements of those who are meeting
regulars. Even though we had a few technical difficulties,
almost everyone agreed that it was a successful first attempt
and holds great promise for the future. Along these same lines,
we used an email list to keep in touch. This allowed more people
to volunteer and participate.
The Salary Survey was conducted by Cathy Blackman. Survey
results for salaries in the state were as follows: Average:
$29,885.13, Median : $30,000.00, Mode : $28,000.00 Barbara
Bradley will be presenting the results in a poster session at
OLA.
One of the activities the group worked on included organizing
the poster/paper sessions for OLA Conference. David Oberhelman,
Tom Messner, and Barbara Bradley deserve the credit for these
efforts, along with all the others who agreed to be presenters.
In addition to this, UCD responded to the hiring crisis
libraries are facing during this time of librarian shortage by
sponsoring two related programs at OLA and a workshop on the
topic May. Special thanks go to Elaina Stewart and Pat McCall
for helping with the May Workshop details.
Finally, UCD has been actively involved with the planning of
LED's summer mini-conference. Thanks to the tireless efforts of
Charles Brooks, Cathy Blackman, Melissa Huffman, and David
Oberhelman, UCD will be bringing several speakers to that
conference.
Next year's officers will include Melissa Huffman as Chair,
David Oberhelman as Chair Elect, and Cathy Blackman as
Secretary.
