Oklahoma Library Association
University and College Division
Annual Report
July, 2002 - April, 2003
The University and College Division for this past year has
consisted of the Chair, Melissa Huffman, Rose State College; the
Chair Elect, David Oberhelman, Oklahoma State University; the
Secretary, Cathy Blackman, Cameron University; and of course,
UCD members from across the state.
Mary Evans conducted the salary survey this year. She found
the following results:
- Entry level - no experience required :
- mean=$29,000, median=$30,000; mode=$30,000. Low $25,000.
High $35,000.
- Experience required :
- mean=$34,438; median=$34,000; mode=$30,000. Low $30,000.
High $41,000.
UCD spent this year working on several programs for the
annual conference:
- A Preconference: Feng Shui Your Library, where
participants learn some of the elements that make their office
and library an inviting place to be.
- A variety of Poster Sessions
- A variety of Presented Papers
- A workshop: Buried Treasures in Oklahoma Libraries,
with Brad Robison (Library Director, Memorial Institute for
the Prevention of Terrorism, Oklahoma City), Marilyn Ogilvie
(Curator, History of Science Collection and supervisor of the
Bizzell Bible Collection, University of Oklahoma Libraries,
Norman), Christie Ballard (Oklahoma City Museum of Art).
- A workshop: Establishing a Statewide Digitization
Effort in Oklahoma developed by Gina Minks of TU and Cokie
Anderson of OSU.
- A workshop: An examination of strategies designed to
increase the visibility and political influence of academic
librarians within the academic political structure, presented
by Scoff Goldy, Wichita State University.
- A workshop in conjunction with the Public Relations
Committee: Marketing your library.
UCD is coordinating with several other groups to develop a
copyright workshop for this next year. We're also looking into
doing some of our regular meetings via H.323 teleconferencing to
encourage statewide participation. We think the combination of
in-person meetings, chat rooms, and teleconferencing will
provide a mix that will help us deal both with travel budget
shortfalls and the needs of communication.
