Minutes
Attending: Linda Taylor, OSU
Jo Daniels, TU
Clair Powers, Phillips Theological Seminary
Cathy Blackman, Cameron University
David Oberhelman, OSU
Melissa Huffman, Rose State
Marc Carlson, TU
Michele Seikel, OSU
There
were no minutes of the December meeting to approve, because there were
technical difficulties during the videoconference for the Stillwater site. Linda Taylor, Vice-Chair, chaired the meeting.
Conference baskets
Linda took charge
of basket items to transport them to conference in OKC. She will tell Cokie
what has been donated. Linda also suggested that we include Depression-era
recipes, books such as Giant or the Grapes of Wrath, and videos of Oklahoma movies. The group also decided to look for Oklahoma wines and winery tours.
Paper and practical demonstration sessions.
Jo Daniels volunteered to moderate the
paper sessions and Centennial Resource Ideas. Cathy Blackman will moderate the
demonstration session at 7:30 a.m. and Michele Seikel will do the one at 8:45.
Possible
workshop topics
Free
government literature, known as “gray” literature on all subjects, such as
technical reports, disseminated now on websites & open source journals.
OU-SLIS has a class in its curriculum on this subject, and we might look at a
speaker from the library school
OU-SLIS
– does it adequately supply Oklahoma’s librarian needs? Is library education
adequate? Panel discussion of recent graduates talking about their career
experiences and what they wish they had learned. Match job descriptions with
SLIS course. Also, we could ask personnel directors from the major library
systems and large academic libraries. We could ask LED to co-sponsor. Offer
SLIS students a student rate for workshops and market to the students.
Possible 2008
Conference Programs
Library coffee
shops – is this what library users today want? Is it a generational thing.
Issues about pests and furniture
How to write job
descriptions and/or resumes
Next Meeting
We’ll get together again April 24th
at 2:00. Melissa Huffman offered Rose State, Rm. 116 as our meeting room, and
invited us to lunch first at Golden Palace.
