Fright Narratives: What Makes a Great Horror story?
7:30-8:30 am
Sponsored by CATS

Session Description

I would like to do a presentation on the ways in which all kinds of fiction (with a specific focus on Young Adult) accomplishes a good scare. I will use examples from each genre, as well as provide the 5 basic elements of horror that a great scary read should provide. I will also give some fun types about additional horror elements that novels borrow from the movies. Although I intend to gear the presentation to librarians and readers, I hope to provide plenty of tips to aspiring authors as well.

Session Objective

I hope to entertain and engage librarians looking to add to and/or better enjoy their horror, mystery, paranormal and suspense shelves.

Tara Hudson

I am the author of the internationally bestselling YA HEREAFTER Trilogy from HarperTeen, an imprint of Harper Collins.  My books include HEREAFTER, ARISE and ELEGY, each of which is a ghost story and takes place in Oklahoma. When not writing, I am also a practicing attorney.
