Session Description
A former English teacher and author of Gothic mysteries reviews the elements of Gothic, discusses the genre's appeal and value, and recommends classic and current Gothic kid lit (including Southern Gothic) that will engage young readers.
Session Objective
- to emphasize the complex history and value of Gothic literature
- to suggest helpful subcategories of Gothic to guide student/patron reading
- to offer librarians an extensive list of classic and current books for their collections.
Sonia Gensler
Sonia Gensler is the author of The Revenant (Oklahoma Book Award, Parent's Choice Silver Award, Sequoyah Intermediate Master list), The Dark Between (Oklahoma Book Award finalist), and Ghostlight, all from Random House/Alfred A.Knopf. A former high school English teacher, she now writes full time in Oklahoma.
