Reach! As a New Manager

Session Description:
New managers face a unique set of challenges and opportunities: How do you manage friends and former peers? How can you create a culture of mutual respect, engagement, and collaboration with intergenerational staff? Our panel of managers will help answer questions on these and other issues.

Speakers: 
Kelly SitzmanKelly Sitzman is currently the Branch Manager of the Southwest Oklahoma City Public Library. She graduated with her MLIS from OU in May 2015 and has worked for the Pioneer Library System in a number of roles since 2013. Kelly was an “accidental manager” fresh out of college/prior to the library world, and she wishes she had the opportunity to attend a panel like this as a new supervisor! 

Ashley WelkeAshley Welke is the Library Manager at the Belle Isle Library, which is part of the Metropolitan Library System.  She received her B.A. from the University of California San Diego and her MLIS from the University of Oklahoma.  Ashley has worked in public libraries for six years- as a Shelver, Children’s Librarian, Department Manager, and Library Manager at two locations.  She is passionate about the customer experience and making Libraries vibrant centers for engaged learning.  She currently lives in Oklahoma City with her husband Marshall and their two dogs, Sam and Bennet.  You can contact Ashley via email at ashley.welke@metropolitanlibrarysystem.org

Ann RaiaAnn Raia is the Circulation and Reference Librarian at Oklahoma City Community College. She has worked in this position since the summer of 2012 and manages all functions of the Circulation Department, including the supervision of Circulation employees. Prior to that, she was the Interlibrary Loan Office Manager at the University of Oklahoma’s Bizzell Library. She worked at Bizzell Library in a supervisory role for over eight years. These positions together equal 13 years of experience in management and supervision. Ann has supervised student employees, graduate assistants, and full time and part time staff. She earned her MLIS from the University of Oklahoma in 2009.
