Presenter: Steve Beleu, Oklahoma Department of Libraries

A Librarian's Guide to Middle-Earth: Tolkien in Libraryland
Abstract: Interest in the writings of J.R.R. Tolkien has risen sharply since the release of the popular Lord of the Rings film trilogy. A plethora of books, websites, and video resources have been produced, making life difficult for selectors trying to stock their shelves with material their hobbit-loving patrons demand. This presentation will review some of major editions and resources available for Tolkien study and appreciation, and will provide annotated selection guides for different types of libraries. It will also look at the role librarians and library collections have played in shaping our understanding of Tolkien’s life and literary contributions.
Presenter: David Oberhelman, Oklahoma State University Library
