The Justice League vs. SuperCensor

Sponsors: Intellectual Freedom Committee and Children and Teen Services

Graphic novels are among the most popular and frequently challenged materials in libraries. Participants will learn about the state of graphic novels from a local bookstore owner and the relationship of graphic novels to the emotional and cognitive development of teens from a developmental psychologist. Justice League librarians will share the positive aspects of including graphic novels in their collections and offer strategies for defending this popular format when SuperCensor challenges them.

Speakers: Rob Vollmar, manager of Atomik Pop, Michael (Mick) Underwood, developmental psychologist; Rosemary Moran, Tulsa City-County Library; and Sara Scheiman, Yukon Public Library.

Of interest to public, school, and support staff.
