Contributed Paper Session IV

Sponsor: University and College Division

Reducing Service Points: One Path to Improved Service
Abstract: In the fall of 2003, the Robert M. Bird Library at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center combined the Reference and Service Desks into a single service point in an effort to streamline library functions, facilitate communication between the Reference and Access Services staffs, and improve service to patrons. This paper will address several facets related to this move including the project brainstorming and planning, implementation of the combined service model, ongoing training needs, and the advantages/disadvantages of the decision.
Presenters: Shari Clifton, Walee Chotikavanic, Marty Thompson, Susan Sanders, Ursula Ellis (University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center)
