Connexion Macros

Sponsors: Technical Services Roundtable

Harvey Hahn, an expert on the topic of OCLC macros, will be presenting an all-day preconference on writing macros for OCLC's Connexion software. These macros are small programs which allow catalogers to reduce multi-step or complex procedures down to a couple of keystrokes, greatly increasing cataloging efficiency. This training session attempts to take people without any programming background and bring them to a point where they can at least understand and use available macros and perhaps to where they might be able to begin writing simple macros on their own.

Mr. Hahn received his MLS in 1977 from Dominican University (formerly Rosary College) in River Forest, Illinois. He has served as cataloger and head of Technical Services at the public libraries in Addison, Palatine, and Arlington Heights, Illinois. Mr. Hahn programs personal computers and, together with his son Joel, has done much to popularize the OCLC Macro Language (OML) via OCLC online presentations, OCLC programs at ALA, macro writing workshops for the Illinois OCLC Users Group, and the hundreds of macros he has written and shared with OCLC customers.

Speaker: Harvey Hahn, programmer

Of interest to public and academic librarians.
