Table Talks

Table Talks are fun, interactive discussion groups intended to stimulate conversation and allow discussion among all of those attending. Participants are encouraged to enjoy visiting with all those attending while participating in informal discussions centered on topics of current interest to our profession, sharing ideas, concerns, and best practices. Speakers will answer questions.

Table Talk — Oklahoma Reads Oklahoma: One Book, One Conference

Join the celebration for the final Oklahoma Reads Oklahoma winning book. There will be a discussion of the 2007 book as well as exciting ideas for programs and tips for promoting the selection.

Speaker: Rilla Askew, a native Oklahoman and two-time recipient of the Oklahoma Book Award, is the author of three novels and a collection of stories. Her work has been nominated for the PEN/Faulkner Award, The Dublin IMPAC Prize, has received the Western Heritage Award, and was selected for Prize Stories 1993: The O.Henry Awards. Her novel Fire in Beulah, which deals in part with the Tulsa Race Riot, received the Myers Book Award and the American Book Award in 2002, and will be the Oklahoma Reads Oklahoma selection for 2007. Her new novel Harpsong is forthcoming from the University of Oklahoma Press in April 2007. She is married to actor Paul Austin and divides her time between Oklahoma, where she teaches at OU in the spring semesters, and the Catskill Mountains in upstate New York.
