Legislating Away Intellectual Freedom

Explore the concept of Intellectual Freedom that allows us more access to information than citizens of any other country in the world. Learn about the recent legislative efforts at the state and national level designed to reduce that access.

Speaker: Carrie Gardner, Ph.D. is an assistant professor of Library Science and Instructional Technology at Kutztown University in Kutztown Pennsylvania.  She is a current member of the ALA Intellectual Freedom Committee, and has chaired the AASL Intellectual Freedom Committee, chaired the Pennsylvania School Librarians Association Intellectual Freedom committee for over 10 years, and chaired the ALA Intellectual Freedom Round Table.  She has given over 150 speeches on intellectual freedom and privacy.

All you need is a web browser to provide incredible tools for your patrons, conduct meetings, collaborate and create (free or at next to nothing). The workshop will focus on Office 2.0, web & computer-based open source applications. The presentation will be adjusted to cover the technologies selected by participants. Workshop will be held in computer lab for hands-on practice in the afternoon. Facilitators will be on hand to help and guide participants. (3rd workshop of 4 in series Reaching the Millennials: Taming their Technology).

Effective Facilitation Skills

In your own library you may be asked to lead others, direct their efforts or harness their energies to achieve desired results.
