Unlocking the Keynote

Hate to run to the microphone in a big plenary session? This breakout is your chance to react to the keynote presentation. Based on your questions and comments, George Needham may elaborate further on the three OCLC reports, discuss the methodologies used to gather the findings, debate possible implications for the future, or give examples of places where some of these ideas have been implemented. There will be no set agenda or prepared PowerPoint slides for this program; it will evolve through your input. This is as close as Mr. Needham will ever get to realizing his childhood dream of running away from home to join the tightrope walkers in the circus.

We are honored that ALA President Loriene Roy is our special guest this year. Don't miss this opportunity to meet and interact with her.
Speakers: Loriene Roy, President, American Library Association. The eldest of eight
children, Loriene was born in Cloquet and raised in Carlton, rural towns bordering the Fond du Lac Reservation
in northern Minnesota. Both of her parents were enrolled members of the White Earth Reservation of Anishinabe
(Ojibwe/Chippewa). Loriene received an MLS degree from the University of Arizona and joined the faculty at the
University of Texas at Austin in January 1987 where she teaches graduate "Public Libraries," "Information Resources
in the Humanities," "Information Resources in the Social Sciences," and "Library Instruction and Information
Literacy." Loriene is currently serving as the 2007-2008 President of American Library Association.

National Endowment for the Arts Big Read Community-Wide One Book Program for any Size Library

You won’t want to miss this interesting panel discussion presented by 3 Oklahoma libraries, Pioneer Library System, Stillwater and Lawton,, who have hosted Big Read programs. Panelists will provide information and answer questions about the National Endowment for the Arts Big Read program and how any size library can apply for and host a successful event.
Speakers: Karen Neurohr, Associate Professor and Assessment Librarian, OSU Library,
was co-project director for the Big Read held in Stillwater in Spring 2007 and was instrumental in bringing
this event to the OSU campus. Anne Harris, Coordinator for the Adult Center for Reader’s Services
at the Pioneer Library System, was one of the coordinator’s, along with co-workers Anne Masters and Gary
Kramer, for The Big Read: The Grapes of Wrath in the spring of 2007. PLS is currently participating in
their second Big Read. David Snider, Director of the Lawton Public Library, was the third in the
state to host The Big Read in the Fall of 2007. He partnered with Cameron University and other local
organizations to bring The Grapes of Wrath to the Lawton Community.
