1905-1906 |
In
the winter the Congregational Church was instrumental in establishing
the first library for Alva along with a gymnasium for the young
people. 75 volumes were donated. |
| 1908 |
The library
is closed and the 400 remaining books put into storage. |
| 1911 |
The new
City Hall gave a room on the third floor to the City Federation
of Women’s Clubs for their project, the library. 400 volumes
donated. |
| 1915 |
During
World War I the library was closed and the space used by the
Red Cross. After the war, it reopened. |
| 1923 |
The City
council agreed to make a yearly appropriation for the upkeep
of the library. The initial appropriation was $500. |
| 1942 |
On June
23rd the library was moved to the first floor of the old Alva
General Hospital. |
| 1963
|
On December
9th dedication ceremony was held and the deed to the
library was presented to the City of Alva by the Charles Morton
Shaw Trust. |
| 1964 |
In August
through a grant from the Charles Morton Shaw Trust, the library
became fully computer automated. |
| 1997 |
In the
summer through a grant the internet on two computer terminals
was made available to the public. |
