1915 |
Young
People’s Association established a reading room in the
OBO
Theatre building. |
| 1937 |
WPA opened
a library in the east room of the high school. After the WPA
library, the high school library was open to the public. |
| 1967 |
A movement
got underway to get a public library in Coal County. |
| 1969 |
Chickasaw
Library System began a demonstration library in Coal County
in May, using the first state aid funds ($50,000) ever to be
allocated for public libraries of Oklahoma. The school furnished
a house for library quarters across the street from the high
school and Lamel Study Club, school officials, Community Action
Program people, and other individuals worked together to renovate
the building. |
| 1970 |
In March
Coal County voted a 2 mill levy and joined the Chickasaw Library
System. At the same time that they voted yes for the library,
they voted no on three state questions. |
| 1978 |
Library
moved into the DHS and library building on Main Street. |
| 1981 |
The library
joined the Choctaw Nation Multi-County System which is now
called the Southeastern Public Library System of Oklahoma. |
| 1983 |
First copy
machine was purchased for public use. |
| 1990 |
Fax machine
was received from LSCA funds for resource sharing through
the Serials Exchange program. |
| 1992 |
Computers
with CD drives were received from LSCA funds for
participation in the OLTN plan. |
| 1997 |
Access
to the internet and world wide web as information resources
was
established in the library. |
