Enid
Study Club established a reading room at 120 N. Independence. |

Enid City
officials accepted responsibility for a library project. Jenny
Kelso
named librarian. |
| 1908 |
A site
for the library was selected at 402 N. Independence. |
| 1910 |
On August
1st the Enid Carnegie Library officially opened. |
| 1913-1924 |
Mrs. Cora
Porter became librarian. During her time she established
a branch library, 76 school depositories and seven community
center
libraries. |
| 1924 |
Mrs. Jesse
Parks became librarian, serving until 1928. |
| 1928 |
Miss Mabel
Byron McClure named librarian. Under her leadership,
circulation greatly increased. |
| 1933 |
Name of
library changed to Carnegie Public Library Garfield County. |
| 1950 |
A story
hour for children was added. |
| 1951 |
The Garfield
County Library was moved to the Civic Center.
“At Your Library Column” became a regular feature
of the Enid News
& Eagle. |
| 1959 |
The Enid
Public Library and the Garfield County Library merge and become
the Public Library of Enid and Garfield County. |
| 1963 |
Construction
of the new library building began on the site of the old Post
Office. |
| 1964 |
The new
library building opened with Miss Jean Harrington as director. |
| 1979 |
A station
for interlibrary loans was added. |
| 1984 |
The 20th
anniversary of the library building was celebrated. |
| 1986 |
Lew Blockcowski
was named interim director. |
| 1987 |
Babette
Beach served as director until 1989. |
| 1990

Catharine
Cook named director. |
| 1992 |
Literacy
room was added. |
| 1993 |
Library
staff was reorganized with new departments created. |
| 1994 |
The library
catalog was automated. |
| 1996 |
An addition
to the Technical Services Department was created. |
| 1997 |
Access
to the internet became available to the library patrons and
staff. |
