| 1928 |
On
August 13th the doors to the Kingfisher Public Library opened
for the
first time. |
| 1929 |
In July
the City Commissioner assumes responsibility of providing funds
for the library. It will no longer operate on a volunteer basis.
On October 29th the first paid librarian was hired, Mrs. W.
M. Patillo. Her assistant was Miss Marion Kerr. |
| 1956 |
The Library
moved to a new location at 117 W. Miles on April 6th. Name
changed to Kingfisher Memorial Library. |
| 1980 |
Voters
went to the poll to vote on a bond issue for a new library building
on October 14th. |
| 1984 |
On April
2nd the Friends of the Library began collecting funds for the
new
library building. |
| 1985 |
On May
3rd the City Commissioners decided on a location for the new
library. It will be located on West Will Rogers. |
| 1987 |
On August
2nd construction began at the new site of the library.
Bollenbach-Gilmour is the contractor. Work is expected to be
completed in approximately six months. |
| 1988 |
On May
30th an open house was held at the new library. The doors were
officially opened on this day with ribbon cutting held at 2
p.m. |
| 1991 |
The library
became fully automated in June. All books, etc. are checked
out and in using an automated system. |
