| 1930 |
Mrs.
Ollie Barnet opened a reading rental shelf in her home in hopes
it
would focus attention on the need for a city library. |
| 1933 |
Nouveau
and Coterie, women’s civic clubs, became sponsors of the
rental
shelf and began fund raising projects to support it. The rental
shelf was eventually moved to a downtown location. |
| 1938 |
The proposed
library became a WPA project. The objective was to get
600 donated books. 1200 were received. A bindery was set up
and books were repaired and cataloged. Marlow now had a free
library located at 311 West Apache. |
| 1940 |
The City
of Marlow agreed to accept the library as a part of the city
and to
pay the librarian’s salary and upkeep of the library.
The library was moved to a building at 109 North 5th and Mrs.
W. A. Darnell served as librarian. |
| 1945 |
The library
moved above City Hall at 318 West Main. Mrs. Cad Cox
served as librarian. |
| 1964 |
A drive
was begun to raise funds to build a new building for the library
entirely with donations. |
| 1970 |
Ground
breaking was held at 407 West Seminole. |
| 1972 |
The new
building was dedicated and open to the public. Glovina Calhoun
was librarian. |
| 1983 |
Billie
Long became library director. |
| 1993 |
Lois Bannister
became library director. |
| 1994 |
Library
received ODL grant for OLTNcat computer and $3,000 grant for
large print books and adult audio books. Sigma Nu donated a
computer for patron use. |
| 1995 |
Automated
with technology grant from ODL. The library added an IBM
typewriter for patron use and LED printer for patron computer
from Johnson-O’Malley. |
| 1997 |
Two internet
access terminals were added for public use and one terminal
for staff. |
