Maysville Public Library

1962

On July 16th the Garvin County Excise Board approves a ½ mill levy to
finance the formation of the Garvin County Library and bookmobile. On July 25th the first meeting of the Garvin County Library Board is held.
1963 In May Chesley Shumate is appointed Bookmobile Librarian and begins
Summer Reading Program.
1984 Maysville Library Friends purchase and donate building located at 805
Williams to the City of Maysville to be used as a municipal library with the library of books once known as the Garvin County Library on the condition that a 3/8 cent tax increase be passed for the funding of the library.
1987 In October a 1 cent tax increase is proposed to help library funds. Mrs. E.
C. Elliott establishes Library Trust fund to help pay for library utilities.
1988 Voters in the special sales tax election on February 2nd to fund the library
approved the 1 cent increase by 14 votes. A bill making it a misdemeanor to steal or deface library materials was signed by Governor Bellman on April 5th. House Bill 1173 officially becomes law on November 1st.
1997 Samantha Robb named new librarian in January. On October 7th ODL
awarded a technology grant of $2,500 to purchase the library’s first computer.
On October 28th Maysville City Council approves deal with Smokesignals internet to house server unit at the library, providing Maysville Public Library with unlimited internet access at no charge and providing local internet access to the town.
