| 1905 |
Twelve
ladies each purchased two books and formed a reading circle.
Their goal was a public library for Yukon. |
| 1915 |
The original
group had increased to 25 members. This group incorporated
and officially became the Ladies Library Club. This organization
served as the sole financial support of the library for 64 years.
A three room house was purchased for housing the library and
a librarian was hired. |
| 1927 |
A small
red brick library building was erected on Elm Street. |
| 1959 |
An annex
was added to the Elm Street location. |
| 1963 |
10,000
volume collection goal was met. |
| 1979 |
Ownership
of library was turned over to the City of Yukon. Requirements
for State Aid funding were met! |
| 1989 |
Fax machine
was placed in library for Serials Information Exchange
purposes. |
| 1990 |
Automated
circulation/catalog system was activated. |
| 1991 |
Participation
in the Oklahoma Library Technology Network provided
shared bibliographic information for interlibrary loan purposes. |
| 1993 |
First CD
Rom computer for reference purposes placed in library. |
| 1996 |
Online
capabilities added for enabling staff the capability of internet
searches and OLTNcat borrowing and lending. Staff participation
in library certification process offered by the Oklahoma Department
of Libraries. Food Lion building is purchased and plans for
new library drafted. |
| 1997 |
Library
relocated to 1200 Lakeshore, doubling the square footage of
the
library. Received a technology grant allowing for new network
software, purchase of 15 new computers for catalog/circulation
and technological reference for all age levels. |
