MINUTES

Meeting began: 10:07

We each introduced ourselves and gave reports about our depository operations. During this time I suggested that those of us who subscribe to Marcive services should have an optional meeting during the Annual Meeting of Oklahoma’s Federal Depository Librarians, which will take place in 2005 at OSU in November. Others agreed, so we will do this.

REPORTS

1. Verna Graybill, Current Chairwoman of GODORT, discussed these items of business concerning the OLA Annual Conference and GODORT’s activities there:

  1. We need to get a gift for Patrice McDermott, ALA Washington Office, who is speaking about government information for the Legislative Committee. Suggestions were made.
  2. We need to get a gift for Dr. Brad Robison. Suggestions were made.

2. Barbara Miller gave the Legislative Committee report:

  1. She mentioned the pending question of funding from ODL of public libraries unaffiliated with library systems. Pat Williams added details.
  2. She mentioned that ODL will lose some federal funding in federal fiscal year 2006.
  3. She mentioned the pending Oklahoma Higher Education Bond Issue legislation.
  4. She discussed the presentation that will occur at the OLA annual conference on “disappearing documents”.

3. Steve Beleu talked about the new NIH public access policy and handed out some materials about
it. The practical affects of the policy upon universities and research centers are unknown at this time, and will require adjustments on their parts, but the overall effect of this policy upon the public is good.

OLD BUSINESS

We talked about possible workshops. Among the topics: using government sources to teach information literacy; the Oklahoma Publication Clearinghouse’s “Hot Links”—how to use them; local government information sources; and using government information to promote the Oklahoma Centennial in 2007. This last idea was the suggestion most approved.

NEW BUSINESS

Steve Beleu talked about possible ways that the government information community can interact with the
primary/secondary teacher community on National History Day, whose topic this year is the “100
milestone documents of American history”. We discussed various marketing strategies, but came to no
conclusions. This topic may be continued at our next meeting on April 1 during the OLA Annual
Conference.

Meeting concluded: 12:29
