Library Staff Evaluations

Panelists from different types of libraries will discuss using staff evaluations to improve library performance. The discussion will include how to successfully conduct staff evaluations. Panelists include Laurie Sundborg, Chief Operating Officer of Tulsa City County Library; Sherry Young, Director of Cameron University Library; and Connie Terry, Director of Woodward Public Library; moderated by Melody Kellogg of Metropolitan Library System.
Dr. Sherry Young (right) holds the M.L.I.S. from Louisiana State University and the Ed. D. from University of Tennessee and has served as Cameron University’s Director of Library Services since 2000. Prior to that she was Access Services Librarian at The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and worked as a librarian at The University of Mississippi’s Law School Library. Sherry has published articles related to library history and library student assistants and has made presentations at several professional library conferences. Her first supervisory position, that of assistant movie theatre manager at age 17, instilled in her a keen appreciation of the value of the successful performance evaluation. She is an active member of Oklahoma Council of Academic Library Directors and remembers her participation in ACRL/Harvard Leadership Institute for Librarians as her most meaningful post-degree educational experience.
Laurie Sundborg (left) is the Chief Operating Officer for the Tulsa City-County Library. She is currently the co-chair of the OLA Legislative Committee and has served on the OLA Intellectual Freedom Committee and the Endowment Committee. In addition she is a board member of the Oklahoma Center for the Book and FOLIO. She is a member of OLA, ALA and PLA and has a BS and MLS from the University of Oklahoma.
Connie Terry (right) is the Director of the Woodward Public Library. She has held many positions in the library before being appointed Director in March of 2001. She has been working in the library profession since 1981. She started with the Adult Department before moving into the Children’s Department to serve as the Assistant Children’s Librarian and the Children’s Librarian. She is currently serving on OLA’s Continuing Education Committee.
Melody Kellogg is Manager of Library Operations for Metropolitan Library System’s Edmond branch. For 13 years, Kellogg worked in community and downtown revitalization with Oklahoma Department of Commerce’s Main Street Program. She continued a similar path by working for the City of Guthrie 11 years in various positions involving organizational development, grant-writing, historic preservation, project coordination, and library and city management. She followed her stint as City Manager with a two-year sabbatical to the ministry in 2009, rejoining the library ranks in 2011. Kellogg has Masters Degrees in Business Administration and Library and Information Studies.
