Come experience poetry with Oklahoma Poet Laureate Nathan Brown.

Nathan BrownNathan Brown is a songwriter, photographer, and award-winning poet from Norman, Oklahoma. Serving as the current Poet Laureate of the State of Oklahoma for 2013 to 2014, he holds an interdisciplinary PhD in English and Journalism (Creative and Professional Writing). Traveling often, Brown performs readings and concerts as well as speaking and leading workshops in high schools, universities, and community organizations on such topics as creativity, creative writing, and the need for readers to not give up on poetry.

He has received two Pushcart Prize nominations and was a finalist for the 2013 Paterson Poetry Prize in New Jersey.

Nathan has published nine books including his newest title, Less is More, More or Less. His others titles are: Karma Crisis: New and Selected Poems; Letters to the One-Armed Poet, his first memoir and a previous collection of poetry; Two Tables Over, won the 2009 Oklahoma Book Award; My Sideways Heart, Not Exactly Job (a finalist for the Oklahoma Book Award); Ashes over the Southwest; Suffer the Little Voices (a finalist for the Oklahoma Book Award); and Hobson's Choice.

Nathan has also worked as a professional songwriter and musician for decades in and around Oklahoma City, Nashville, and Austin. . . as well as internationally in Israel and Russia. He has also worked and/or performed with Billy Crockett, Jon Dee Graham, Sam Baker, Michael Johnson, Cynthia Clawson, Tom Wopat and others. His most recent album, Gypsy Moon, was recorded at Blue Rock Studios just outside of Austin.

He currently teaches History of the Arts and Humanities courses for the Liberal Studies Department at the University of Oklahoma, and Introduction to Songwriting for Austin Community College.
