Barbara Stripling, ALA President
Barbara Stripling is the 2013-2014 President of the American Library Association and has focused her presidential initiatives on the theme "Libraries Change Lives." The cornerstone document is the Declaration for the Right to Libraries - a campaign geared at collecting signatures in support of libraries of all types. As director of school library programs in New York City, with 1.1 million students and 1700 schools, she used her leadership and mentoring skills to focus on building a nurturing and supportive community and strong guidance for all the school librarians. In January 2012, she became an Assistant Professor of Practice at the School of Information Studies at Syracuse University where she can impact the profession of librarianship through her teaching, research, and writing.
