 Sequoyah 50th Anniversary Logo

At the 2008 OLA conference, the Endowment Committee gave half the proceeds from accolade sales to the Sequoyah 50th Anniversary Committee which allowed for the design and purchase a new Sequoyah medal for presentation to winning authors.  In 2009, the Oklahoma Library Association celebrated the 50th Anniversary of the Sequoyah Book Award at its annual conference and presented the first medal to S.E. Hinton for her book “The Outsiders” and for her contribution to young adult literature. Also attending the banquet was Laurie Williams, an Endowment Committee Advisory Board member, who spoke about her presentation as a young girl of the Sequoyah award to author Ben Stahl in 1969. Once again, the Endowment Committee supported the efforts of the Sequoyah 50th Anniversary by selling commemorative pins featuring the new Sequoyah logo.
