OLA Endowment Top 10: 3. Newspapers in Education
Share |
Newspapers in Education LogoThe Oklahoma Library Association Endowment provided funding to help kick-start new promotional activities to give greater exposure to the Sequoyah Book Award Program, and to provide school librarians and language arts teachers with lessons, posters, and bookmarks to encourage young people to read Sequoyah book titles. The Endowment’s initial investment in 2012, combined with dollars from the Oklahoma Department of Libraries, bet on a new way to reach educators and students, and was immediately successful with more than 400 school libraries and classrooms signing up to participate. In the last two years, OLA has committed funds from the association’s annual budget to support the joint OLA/ODL program, and an additional private sponsor, Global Health, has joined the effort. In the initiative’s three years, almost 1200 school libraries and classes have signed up. The Endowment’s initial investment helped pave the way for this new program.
