The OLA Endowment Committee raised and provided funds for the Connie Van Fleet Memorial Scholarship.
The Connie Van Fleet Memorial Scholarship was conceived to honor the memory of Dr. Connie Van Fleet, who was far more than a professor at the University of Oklahoma School of Library and Information Studies. She was a person who inspired others to be the best version of themselves and drew others into the program. Dr. Van Fleet saw the value that libraries hold as a critical resource for communities and was a strong supporter of intellectual freedom for all. The Endowment Committee raised $7,950.00 at the annual conference alone. In 2014 the first Connie Van Fleet Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Mr. Stacy Schrank in the amount of $750.00. Just as Dr. Van Fleet did throughout her career and especially for libraries and librarians in Oklahoma and the Oklahoma Library Association, this scholarship is an investment back into communities. It encourages and assists students in getting their degrees and in becoming vital resources, productive citizens, and better rounded individuals.
