OLA Endowment Top 10: 7. The Fabulous "Cars" Fundraiser

The largest single fundraising effort hosted by the Endowment Committee was held Saturday, June 3, 2006.  It included the Oklahoma screening and premier of Disney/Pixar’s first “Cars” movie.  Oklahoma’s own Michael Wallis, the “Sheriff” in “Cars”, convinced the producers to allow a premier of the movie to benefit the OLA Endowment.  With the efforts of Wallis and Shannon McIntosh, an executive of Disney owned Miramax Films, the stage was set for the Oklahoma screening of “Cars” and a gala evening at the Governor’s Mansion.  Thanks to First Lady Kim Henry, the Endowment Committee hosted a fabulous red carpet evening with dinner, a classic car show (which included the Sheriff’s Car), a silent auction and a program with Oklahoma celebrities.

The “Cars” event also became an “outreach” opportunity for the OLA Endowment.  Approximately 100 tickets were given to the children, employees and families of the Oklahoma Baptist Children’s Home for the afternoon movie premier and activities.

At the end of the day the Endowment netted $41,632; a greater awareness of the OLA Endowment for members was fostered; the great work of the Oklahoma Library Association was recognized; and strong friendships were forged between OLA members, FOLIO and Oklahoma library supporters.
