Photo of Kay BoiesIn 1983, a wise search committee hired a new part-time Executive Secretary for the Oklahoma Library Association, and it turned out to be an excellent decision for all concerned. Kay Boies came to the position with a background in journalism and an enthusiasm for libraries that continues to be contagious. Shortly thereafter she was made Executive Director on a full-time basis. Kay has since served with 24 different presidents, assisting them with appointments, conference planning, workshop coordination, membership campaigns, fund raising, and all the little details that make a membership association of this type successful.

Kay undoubtedly knows more of the approximately 1,000 members than anyone in the state. She has worked with hundreds of volunteer contributors and committees, and cheerfully attended thousands of meetings all over the state. She has worked more than “full-time” most weeks in her efforts to assist with workshops, projects, conferences, legislative activities, and in getting to know new members.

Her goal has been to facilitate for its members the mission of OLA, which is “To strengthen the quality of libraries, library services and librarianship in Oklahoma.”

Thousands will agree that she is accomplishing that goal, year after year. Kay has loved working with wonderful people, and has lasting memories of successful projects and lots of fun in the process. And she’s still enthusiastic and cheerful!
