Known for their worldwide philanthropy in health, education and libraries, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has made a profound difference in making it possible for many of Oklahoma’s smaller or less well-funded libraries to join the world of networked electronic resources. Over the past several years, they have contributed six grants to libraries in our state totaling over $5,000,000 to provide computer hardware and software to scores of libraries. This generous assistance has made an enormous impact on these communities and their citizens who depend on libraries for electronic access to information.
By 2002, the Foundation had given over $250,000,000 to libraries throughout the USA, which has permitted 95% of public libraries to provide free internet services to their users. Bill and Melinda Gates are truly library legends!
