The Noble Foundation
Share |

Bust of Lloyd NobleLloyd Noble, a southern Oklahoma native and a successful oilman, founded The Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation in Ardmore, Okla. in 1945. Mr. Noble regarded the land as essential to the future growth, prosperity and security of our country. The early efforts of the Noble Foundation focused on educating and encouraging area farmers and ranchers to be mindful of land stewardship and resource conservation. The Noble Foundation continues Mr. Noble’s vision today – influencing agriculture by exploring and improving production agriculture techniques and advancing plant science through research and discovery.

The Noble Foundation’s Agricultural Division assists agricultural producers and other managers of natural resources to achieve their financial, production, stewardship and quality-of-life goals through consultation, education, research and demonstration. The division’s specialists serve a 47-county area (a 100-mile radius) around Ardmore that includes counties in both Texas and Oklahoma.

The Noble Foundation conducts fundamental and translational research through its Plant Biology and Forage Improvement divisions. The Plant Biology Division explores basic biochemical, genetic and genomic factors for crop improvement, enhancement of human and animal health and production of novel products in crops. The Forage Improvement Division develops new forage varieties for farmers and ranchers by integrating traditional plant breeding and molecular biology.

The Noble Foundation employs about 300 people, with 70 having Ph.D.-level educations. Noble specialists and scientists come from around the world. Current employees represent 15-20 countries.
