Photo of Dee Ann RayDee Ann Ray held a BA in Modern Languages from The University of Tulsa (1959) and MLS from the University of Oklahoma (1960). She worked for the Oklahoma State Library as a Field Consultant from 1960-1963; for the Missouri State Library as Director of Demonstration Services from 1964 through May of 1966; and for the Custer-Washita Demonstration starting in May 1966 which resulted in the creation of the Western Plains Library System.

Dee Ann worked with 27 library elections, including the successful Tulsa City-County when she was on loan from ODL to Allie Beth Martin.

Ray was a member of the Oklahoma Library Association for 52 years. She attended her first OLA Meeting in 1957 when the group celebrated its 50th anniversary.

Ray was honored by OLA with the Distinguished Service Award. She served OLA as Treasurer and as President in 1972-73. She was a Paul Harris Fellow; Clinton’s Citizen of Year for 1980; received the Kiwanis Community Service Award; was an Honorary Colonel in the Oklahoma National Guard; received the Diana Award for the State of Oklahoma in 1986 by Beta Sigma Phi Sororities; named to the Western Oklahoma Hall of Fame and Dewey County Hall of Fame in 1988; worked on the Oklahoma Image Project; was program chair for the 1978 Oklahoma Governor’s Conference on Libraries; named as Congressional delegate to the 1990 White House Conference on Libraries; served on the Caldecott/Newberry Award Committee in 1976; served on the ALA Council from 1975-78; and chaired just about every committee of OLA. She served as Co-Chair of the City of Clinton Centennial Committee in 2003; twice chaired the Clinton Regional Hospital Board; was elected to 12 years on the Oklahoma Historical Society Board, and aided in many historical endeavors. Ray also was given two awards by the Oklahoma Heritage Association for her historical articles and slide/tape shows.

Dee Ann Ray died in Yukon on April 28, 2012.
