Women’s Federated Clubs
Share |

Among the many women’s clubs in Oklahoma that actively participated in the establishment of public libraries, several were under the auspices of Women’s Federated Clubs. Among the most notable in their efforts were the groups in Alva, Hugo, Lawton, Pauls Valley, Sallisaw and Stillwater. Their efforts were instrumental in seeing libraries started in those towns, and in supporting them after their founding.

Sometimes this support continued for many years because of lack of sufficient public funding for the libraries.

Oklahomans owe these groups special recognition for their determination to see libraries made available to all in their communities.
