Academic librarians Matt Upson (OSU-Stillwater) and Linda Pye (Southwestern Oklahoma State University) will discuss some innovative ways they have used on-campus events to reach out and attract students to come to their libraries.
Matt Upson is the Director of Library Undergraduate Services at Oklahoma State University. He has also been the Director of Library Services at McPherson College (KS), an MLS program director for Emporia State University, and most recently, the Director of Library Instruction at Emporia State University. He enjoys finding opportunities for innovative instruction and interaction with students and is currently working on a comic book guide to information literacy and research skills to be published by the University of Chicago Press in 2015. He earned an MLS from Emporia State University and a BS degree in Secondary Education from Oklahoma State University, where he met his wife Irene. They have a two year old son named Colin who loves to joyfully scream about trains and snacktime.
Linda Pye is the Head of Technical Services at the Southwestern Oklahoma State University Library and has been at SWOSU since 1989. She has also worked in libraries at Texas A&M University, Cornell University, Moore Public Library, and Bryan (TX) Public Library. She received the M.L.I.S. from the University of Oklahoma and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in French and English Education from Arkansas Tech University. Linda is an active member of the Oklahoma Library Association and has served on several OLA divisions, committees, and roundtables. She is currently the Vice-Chair/Chair-Elect of the University and College Division. She currently serves as an ESL tutor and President of the Westcentral Oklahoma Literacy Coalition in Weatherford.
