OLA 2015: Poetry for the People

Program is designed to promote creative thinking around the use of poetic wordplay and hands on poetry games. 1-Performance: reciting poetry and discussing some of its goals and methods 2-Audience collaboration: making poetry together through activities such as poker poetry & alliteration jars 3-individual response: offering poetry prompts to encourage participants to find their own words and visions, their poetry voice.

Participants will understand and be able to use prompts to come up with their own poetry, to collaborate with other on poetry and poem writing and to explore ways that images and ideas come together to make poetry.

Shaun PerkinsShaun Perkins is a storyteller, poet, teacher, and workshop facilitator, who performs and presents workshops at the regional and national levels with such organizations as the National Storytelling Network, National Association for Poetry Therapy, National Council for Teachers of English, and many more. She is the director of the Rural Oklahoma Museum of Poetry, a teaching artist with the Oklahoma Arts Council, and the webmaster/liaison for the Territory Tellers, Oklahoma’s only statewide storytelling organization.
