Makerspaces are innovative learning spaces where users explore both traditional and digital media, interact with mentors and peers, and engage in expressive and creative projects. Presenters will share their experience on designing and implementing a STEM-based Maker program in a school library.
Dr. Kyungwon Koh is an assistant professor in School of Library and Information Studies at the University of Oklahoma. Her areas of expertise include youth information behavior, youth services in public and school libraries, and Learning Labs and Makerspaces as community learning centers. As a recipient of the 2014 IMLS (Institute of Museum and Library Services) Laura Bush 21st Century Program Early Career Development Grant, Dr. Koh is currently investigating how students create information during project-based, guided-inquiry STEM learning in different Learning Labs.
Amanda Kordeliski is the Teacher Librarian at Irving Middle School in Norman. She won the Oklahoma School Library Technology in Education award in 2014 and tries to balance her library time between spreading a love of reading, researching and information literacy. Kathryn Roots Lewis is the Director of Media Services and Instructional Technology for Norman Public Schools. She has been a school librarian and a classroom teacher. Kathryn has co-authored a book and several articles including serving as co-writer of the AASL/Achieve document, Implementing the Common Core State Standards: The Role of The School Librarian Action Brief. Most recently Kathryn was named as a LILEAD Fellow, a program for school library supervisors. Kathryn was recognized with the 2013 OU SLIS Outstanding Alumni Award, as Oklahoma's 2012 Outstanding Technology Leader, and as the 2010 OLA Library Legend. Kathryn is the current Past Chair of the Supervisors Section of the American Association of School Librarians (AASL), a member of the AASL Common Core Task Force, and the Chair of the AASL/ALSC/YALSA Common Core Task Force. She served as OLA President in 2002-2003. Kathryn resides in Norman with her husband. She is a proud mom and Nana.
