What Enquiring Minds Should Know About the Office of American Indian Culture and Preservation at the Oklahoma History Center (OHC)

Date: Wednesday, April 29
Time: 10:30 am – 4:00 pm -- PLEASE NOTE TIME CHANGE!
Sponsor: Tribal Libraries Committee (TLC)

Important Note: MEET AT THE OKLAHOMA HISTORY CENTER

Bill Welge will present a program at the Oklahoma History Center that will include a behind the scenes tour and a tour of the exhibits.

Interested in better serving the tribal populations in your area?  Want to know how to work with the OHC in its educational, preservation, and collection development projects related to American Indian cultural resources? Or you may be asking the tough questions, such as “What is OHS doing with ‘my’ tribe’s items?  Or “Can We Work with OHS on How It’s Presenting Us?”  Come and learn from one of the best, Director Bill Welge, who has years of experience building relationships between the OHC and Oklahoma tribes.  He will be assisted by Tara Damron, Deputy Director.

Besides the sharing of ongoing and future projects, the day will also include a “behind the scenes” tour.  There will be free time to visit OHC attractions, which include, among others, the Indian Gallery highlighting Oklahoma tribes, the new exhibit on the Steam Boat Heroine that sank in the Red River in 1838, the Century Chest exhibit display of items from a 1913 time capsule, and the Research Center.  Lunch will be on your own at the Winnie Mae Café on the second floor and the Gift Store is also a ‘must-stop’.
