From Series to Singles: What to Recommend When a Student has Finished a Favorite Series
7:30-8:30 am
Sponsored by OKSL

Session Description

Reading a series can keep students engaged for a long time, but there is always the question of what to read next. School librarian Deborah Franklin will highlight single titles that are similar to popular series. Although focused on middle grade readers (4-8), the presentation will include a variety of reading ranges and interests, with titles that would be found in elementary, intermediate, or middle school libraries.

Session Objective

Giving librarians ideas on how to guide students who have completed and loved a book series into choosing a similar stand alone book.

Photo of Deborah Franklin"I spend my days putting great books into the hands of great kids." -- That's the way I describe my job to people who ask. Of course, I do so much more, but connecting kids and literature is the highlight of my profession. I am a career educator, who started out as a drama teacher in high schools and middle schools, then switched to teaching high school English. In 2009, I came to Deer Creek Public Schools to begin phase three of my career as a school librarian. In my current employment, I am focused on middle grade readers.
