A History Treasure in Oklahoma

Dr. Duane H.King is a noted Cherokee scholar and Director of the Helmerich Center for American Research, located at Tulsa's renowned Gilcrease Museum. He will tell OLA members about the research resources of the Center, which the website notes holds over 100,000 "rare books, documents, maps, and unpublished works....a vast archive of printed documents, dating back to the time of Columbus, that detail Spanish arrival in the New World, as well as documents that tell the stories of the New England colonies, Westward expansion and the experiences of America's native peoples". Dr. King will share information about the Center and update us on its upcoming events.
To raise awareness among all OLA members about primary sources for research on American Indians and other groups in the history of the United States. Dr. King brings to this position a long history as a scholar in American Indian Studies.
