2010 Masterlists:
Past Masterlists:
PLEASE NOTE: The books on the Sequoyah Masterlists are not intended to be an automatic recommendation of the books. Since selection policies vary, one should apply the specific guidelines to each title and purchase those titles that meet individual selection policies. It is not the intention of the committees that every student must read every book on either masterlist. ELIGIBILITY FOR VOTING: Students in grades 3-5 who have read or listened to three or more books from the Children’s Masterlist are eligible to vote for a favorite in April. Students in grades 6-8 who have read or listened to three or more books from the Young Adult Masterlist are eligible to vote for a favorite in April. CRITERIA FOR BOOK SELECTION: Books considered for the Sequoyah Masterlists must be written by an author living in the United States, published three years prior to the award date, and have received at least one positive review. Criteria for selecting books for the Masterlists include: literary merit, originality, timelessness, subject matter of interest to the appropriate age group, factual accuracy, clarity and readability. READING TEAMS: Books on the Sequoyah Masterlists are selected by a Children’s Reading Team and a Young Adult Reading Team. The Reading Teams are made up of Oklahoma Library Association members who agree to serve a three-year term. At the time of appointment, prospective members of the team must be public librarians or school librarians actively involved in the selection and or purchase of materials appropriate to the age requirements of the respective committees. OLA members interested in serving on a Sequoyah Reading Team, please email kboies@sbcglobal.netfor more information |
