UCD presented two workshops this year. Both workshops were
cosponsored by the Public Library Division. The first was a
repeat of the successful "Taking Control of the
Internet" workshop on October 19, 1999 at the Bird Library
of the OU Health Sciences Center. (The workshop was first
presented on April 27, 1999 at the same site.) The workshop was
organized by Sheila Johnson and the 1998-1999 Workshop Planning
Committee. 'Taking Control of the Internet" focused on
discovering new and useful Internet resources and tools. The
workshop included discussions of search engines, collection
development tools, and subject directories. Attendees
represented a wide variety of library types and gave this
workshop very positive evaluations.
The second workshop, "Libraries, 'lectronic Resources,
and the Law' was held on March 9, 2000 at the Stillwater Public
Library. This workshop was organized by Carolyn Warrnann and the
1999-2000 Workshop Planning Committee. 'Libraries, 'lectronic
Resources, and the Law' gave attendees valuable information on
legal developments that affect electronic resource licensing
agreements and tips on licensing from the perspectives of
librarians and vendors. The workshop also covered collection
development, distance education issues, and techniques for
incorporating electronic resources into instruction. The
workshop concluded with a look at the future of electronic
resources in Oklahoma. The feedback from attendees was very
positive.

UCD is sponsoring two sessions at the 2000 OLA Annual

little-known special collections in the state. Presenters will
talk about their collections and how library patrons can put
these collections to use. This session is cosponsored by the
Reference Roundtable.
The second session is "Accessible Libraries: ADA
Compliant Technology and Web Design". This session will
feature a speaker from the Oklahoma Library for the Blind and
Physically Handicapped who will discuss assistive technology for
libraries. The session will also give attendees tips for
building accessible web sites.
For the second year UCD is sponsoring poster and paper
presentations. These presentations were very successful at the
1999 OLA Annual Conference. For the first time, presenters were
able to submit their proposals via the web using a form created
by Julia Crawford. The posters and presentations at the 2000
conference represent a wide variety of library issues from
academic, public, and school librarians.
Salary Survey Committee
The Salary Survey Committee members are Barbara Bradley
(chair) and Kate Corbett.
Each fall, the division conducts a survey to determine the
starting salary for beginning professional librarians. The
survey was mailed to 51 academic library directors. Twenty-six

(minimum, 20,000; maximum 36,000; median, 26,000). The results
of the survey have been reported to ALA.
