Oklahoma Library Association
University and College Division
Business Meeting - August 19, 2002 - Stroud Public Library
In Attendance :
Cathy Blackman, Cameron (Secretary); Kay Boise, OLA Executive Director; Barbara Bradley, OSU; Melissa Huffman, Rose State (Chair); David Oberhelman, OSU (Vice Chair); Carolyn Warmann, OSU
The meeting was called to order by Melissa at 2:00 pm.
I. Melissa read comments from the "Celebrating the Web" evaluation forms. Kay asked that suggestions for future conference sessions and workshops be forwarded to the chairs of each OLA division. Kay informed the group that CE Representatives are supposed to compile results from the evaluation forms.
II. Conference
Buried Treasures could be turned into a pre-conference with visits to the libraries highlighted that year. Carolyn and Cathy will work on plans for the Library Interior Design 2003 pre-conference to be co-sponsored with OCALD. Other UCD volunteers for this sub-committee will be sought via an e-mail to be sent by Melissa. Barbara King could be a resource person for this topic. UCD will sponsor four paper sessions at conference again this year. Bonnie Richardson (OSU Library PR Representative), Lee Manzer (OSU School of Business), and Scott Carter (Director, Metropolitan Library System Public Relations) will be asked to present information on Marketing Your Library to Your Faculty and Campus. The topic will need two sessions at conference - one for Lee and one for Bonnie and Scott. Melissa will contact Scott and the CE representative. David, Carolyn, and/or Barbara will contact Lee and Bonnie. Poster session coordinators need $50 for supplies. Barbara will send the information on poster and paper sessions to Melissa so she can fill out the program planning form.
III. Workshops
Melissa will contact Jennifer about bring Laura Gassaway in for a copyright workshop in the Fall of 2003. UCD could plan a workshop in conjunction with the Navigating the Information Future ad hoc committee on recruitment and retention of librarians. UCD's focus would be on the hiring committee and the ad hoc committee's focus would be on the person applying for positions.
IV. Cathy will ask Mary Evans (Univ. of Tulsa) to write up a statement on conducting the annual salary survey which can be proposed as change in the by-laws.
V. Miscellaneous Notes
Drew Edmondson or someone from the Attorney General's Office should be contacted about speaking if OLA does a workshop or session on the Patriot Act. Jan Sanders of the Spokane (WA) Library System would be a good resource for a session on Intellectual Freedom. The next First Amendment Congress will be November 7-8, 2002.
At conference, the OLA store may want to take/sell pictures of attendees with their favorite book with the caption READ.
VII. Adjournment was at 3:05 pm.
Respectfully Submitted,
Cathy Blackman
