Oklahoma Library Association
University and College Division
Business meeting – December 18, 2001 – Stillwater Public
Library
In attendance: Cathy Blackman, Ann Blakely, Charles
Brooks, David Oberhelman
I. Minutes of the November online meeting were read and
approved.
II. Committee Reports
A. Poster and Paper Presentations
David reported that the list of presentations along with
abstracts had been finalized (after a few changes in
presenters and presentation format). Ann asked if it
would be possible to get the paper presenters’ permission to
get a hard copy of their presentations (PowerPoint slides or
some other form of notes page if not the actual text) to
preserve in a UCD paper “archive” or some form of
collection to be made available to UCD members in the future
looking for topics or wanting to know the history of the UCD
paper presentations. David will look into writing a
copyright waiver or some other permission form to send out to
presenters. The group discussed possibly having some of
the hard copies of presentations made available on the UCD
website. The possibility of taking digital pictures of
poster sessions was also raised and will be discussed at
future meetings.
B. Buried Treasures
Ann said she would check with Barbara Bradley for updates on
this program and reconfirmed that David would help with room
setup.
Ann also said that she would contact those individuals who
had offered to help at Conference and would verify that they
would still be available to assist.
C. May 15 Workshop on Recruiting and Retention
Ann said she will contact Ellen Decker to speak on recruiting
issues in Oklahoma. David will follow up with Danny
Wallace of OU-SLIS to get a speaker from the library school.
More plans for the workshop will be covered in future meetings
and Ann plans to present the workshop to the OLA Board in
March.
D. Web Mini-Conference
Charles updated UCD on the plans for the mini-conference and
went over the scheduling grid for the breakout sessions.
Ann said that the UCD program on statistics for online
resources could be combined with the similar statistics
program TESRT had proposed. UCD will also offer a
program on licensing given by Sheila Johnson and a program on
access issues (Ez-proxy and other authentication systems); we
will approach Jonathan Woltz to see if he would be willing to
give this presentation. The last program UCD will offer
at the mini-conference will be one on e-collections such as
netLibrary. Ann will find a speaker for this session.
Charles will present the mini-conference to the OLA board in
March.
E. Nominations
Melissa Huffman was not able to attend the meeting, but Ann
felt she had the nominations in hand for the next ballot.
III. Review of online chat meeting
Ann asked the members for feedback on the online chat meeting in
November. Most felt that the meeting went well despite the
limitations of the free Multicity chat program (those who were
inactive were bounced and some had trouble logging back in).
The group decided they would like to try another online meeting,
possibly using the WebCT system at TU.
IV. Future meetings
Because scheduling conflicts with Tuesday meetings in January
and February, the group decided that there would not be a
January meeting of UCD. The division will tentatively hold
another online meeting (using WebCT or some other service to be
determined) on Wednesday, February 20 at 1:30pm. Ann will
send out information to the members about that meeting and will
send out instructions for logging into WebCT if we use that
service. In January Ann will contact those who offered to
find speakers for the May 15 workshop and get updates on their
progress. If she feels we need a face-to-face meeting in
February, she will send out a notice to the members. The
next scheduled live meeting of UCD will be in March to do final
plans for Conference as well as for the two upcoming workshops.
The meeting was adjourned at 2:30pm.
Respectfully submitted,
David Oberhelman
