OLA/UCD MEETING
Wednesday, December 3, 1997, 1:00 p.m.
Edmon Low Library, Oklahoma State University

Members present: Charles Brooks, Chair, Dottie Davis, Secretary, Helen Hill, Peggy Wolfe, Steve Locy, Judy Wilkerson, Barbara Miller, Elaine Watson, Richard Page, Sheila Johnson, Mark Herring, and Laura Bottoms.

The meeting was called to order by Charles Brooks at 1:00 p.m.

Minutes

The minutes were distributed by Dottie Davis. The only correction was to add Mark Herring to members present.

Report from OLA Executive Board

Charles Brooks distributed copies of the November Membership Report and November Financial Report. He explained that OLA is down a little in memberships and encouraged all members to pay their dues and help in recruiting new members.
On the financial report, he explained the GOOD NEWS and the BAD NEWS. There have been two workshops given with a profit of $385.00 and right now only three are left to give in the Spring. There is not as much profit from workshops as was expected this year.

Workshop

Sheila Johnson reported for the Program Planning Committee. The date has been changed to March 31, 1998. Location is Oklahoma City. Title of the program is "The Internet, To Filter or Not." The time is 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The speaker has not yet been decided but will be asked to address the state of filtering in the nation and issues related to filtering. A reactor panel will be scheduled following the keynote speaker. There will be vendors of filtering software available at an exhibit area. The afternoon speaker will review filtering software, and vendors will be given an opportunity to participate.

Conference Program

Judy Wilkerson reported on the plans for OLA programs. Thursday at 1:45 p.m., Phil Moss will speak on "The Future of Distance Education in Oklahoma", Thursday at 3:45 p.m. a panel will discuss the Western Governor's Project in Oklahoma, and Friday, 9:00 a.m. a panel will discuss distance education in Oklahoma. Speakers include: Pat Weaver-Myers on Library Services for Distance Education and Jennifer Goodson on Internet-based course on research tools.

Helen Hill reported on the committee's progress. Two examples of UCD web pages were shown and can be seen at:

Information for the web page will include: minutes, bylaws, resolutions, programs, officers, committees and goals and objectives.

Nominating Committee for 1998-1999 Officers

The Nominating Committee reported that the ballots have been submitted to Kay Boies and should be sent to the membership soon.

Salary Survey of Academic Librarians

Judy Wilkerson reported that the Academic Library Survey is complete. The mean salary is $24,223.94 and the average salary is $26,020.85

Other Business

CSU library flood update was given by Judy Wilkerson. CSU has a video showing the destruction. They are making progress on the clean-up and are ready to receive gifts.

Charles Brooks announced that the and Mike Havener will present a program sponsored by the Library Education Division on February 19, 1998, "Don't Get Caught in the Web".
