OLA/UCD MEETING

Members present: Charles Brooks, Chair, Dottie Davis, Secretary, Helen Hill, Judy Wilkerson, Colleen Ward, Peggy Wolfe, Laura Bottoms, Nancy Jurney, Jonathan Sparks, Mark Herring, Darcy Rankin, Shari Clifton, and Chariyan Nillprophan.

The meeting was called to order by Charles Brooks at 1:00 p.m.

Minutes

The minutes were distributed by Dottie Davis.

Report from OLA Executive Board

Charles Brooks distributed copies of the December Financial Report. He explained that the OLA/MPLA checking account was closed on 12/16/97 and there was a balance ($85.37) in the account was transferred to the regular OLA checking acount. Ken Bierman has submitted a final report on the joint conference.

Workshop

Peggy Wolfe reported for Sheila Johnson on the Program Planning Committee. Final arrangements are being made and everything is on schedule. Surveys on filtering have gone out and will be reported on at the conference. The keynote speaker is June Lester. The Panelist will include: John Augelli, Jonette Ellis, Anne Fischer, Mark Herring Pat Sprowls, and Ann Blakely. John Corbett will review filtering software and Ken Bierman will serve as moderator for the Vendor's panel.

Conference Program

Judy Wilkerson reported on the plans for OLA programs. The only change will be for the 3rd session involving the Western Governors. Linda Taylor has arranged for Dr. Hromas to present the program which will involve other people from OSU.

WWW Committee

Charles Brooks reported that he is in the process of adding information to the web site. Information for the web page will include: minutes, bylaws, resolutions, programs, officers, committees and goals and objectives.

Poster Sessions

Laura Bottoms reported on the possibility of having poster sessions at OLA. She does not think there is enough time to have any for this year. She gave information on posters sessions at ALA and suggested we look into having them for future conferences. Judy Wilkerson suggested that a standing committee be established on poster sessions.

Other Business

CSU library flood update was given by Judy Wilkerson. CSU can receive materials now and libraries can mail directly to them. Forty boxes were shipped to them with an approximate value of about $20,000.

Charles Brooks ask for ideas for a booth at the OLA conference Thursday night event with the county fair theme. Dottie Davis volentered to bring a putt putt golf game. If there are other ideas we will welcome them. We will need donation for the prizes.
