OLA Program Committee Meeting
David reported on the July 16th Program Committee meeting. The
2005 Conference will be held Mar. 30-Apr. 1st at the Post Office
Training Facility on Highway 9, south of Norman. David said that
program forms for the conference are due on Sept. 10, 2004.
Speaker forms are due in November. Susan Dulaney Wright is
Program Chair this year. Oct. 1st is the deadline for the salary
survey, which will be done again this year by Mary Evans of TU.
The Leadership Institute is on Nov. 3rd.
OLA Programming Ideas
Library Computer Security (popups, spyware, browser helper
objects, e-mail viruses). Anne Prestamo would be a good
presenter, or Andy Peters of Pioneer Multi-County.
Improving Relations Between Supervisors & Staff
Support Staff Round Table might want to co-sponsor this one. Ken
Bierman would be an ideal speaker. He is currently at Los Vegas.
Linda Taylor will contact him about doing a pre-conference. The
Leadership Committee & the Administrative Round Table might also
co-sponsor. This could be a full day workshop, including
performance evaluations. Pat Wagner could also speak. We can
also contact MPLA about applying for their Pre-Conference grant.
Topics could include faculty vs. paraprofessional status and
approaches to asking for raises.
Buried Treasures.
We will still present 3 Buried Treasures at the Conference. Next
year, they will be the Mabee-Gerritt Museum at St. Gregory’s
(Etruscan Collection). They also have Native American artifacts,
library collections, etc. Cokie will contact the librarian.
The group also agreed on the Rodeo Collection at the Western
Heritage Museum and the historical medical instruments
collections at OU Health Sciences Center.
Workshop
We will push the ILL Workshop date back to the week of Jan.
11-14, 2005, during intersession. Working title remains “ILL for
Non-Geeks.”
Marc Carlson of TU will do an overview on how ILL works from the
point of view of both patrons and staff, an ILL primer. Breakout
sessions will include:
Prospero & ILIAD – Jonnny Johnson, OSU
Ariel – Cathy Blackman, Cameron
Autographics – Sarah Simpson, Tulsa City-County
Docline – Cheryl Suttles, OU Health Sciences Center
OKULS Union Listing – Dana Belcher, East Central State
Molly Murphy (OU) could do an overview of the different systems.
We could close with a session on document delivery.
Thom Thorisch (TU) can help with publicity. Our location will be
the Tom Steed Center at Rose State if it’s available; it not,
the campus library has a lecture hall and 2 meeting rooms with
computer access. Melissa Huffman will check into this. If we use
the Tom Steed Center, City Bites will cater; otherwise, we’ll
use the Rose State catering service.
UCD will also co-sponsor the LED workshop on developing local
consortia for information literacy training among public,
school, and college libraries.
Our next meeting will be on Sept. 22nd at Rose State.
Respectfully submitted,
Michele Seikel,
Secretary, OLA UCD |
