Approval of Minutes

Minutes of the February and April meeting were approved.

OLA Conference Evaluations

The Evaluation Summary of the Oklahoma Library Association Annual Conference was passed out and discussed. The paper and poster sessions were very well received. The Effective Bibliographic Instruction session and the Librarians, Libraries and Librarianship in the 21st Century were also very well received.

Committees

 

Workshop Planning Committee - 1999-2000

Most pressing issue is the workshop in the fall, but not conflict with the ACRL event planned in November (probably on November 12). Sheila Johnson, chair of the Workshop Planning Committee, passed out the evaluations from the Taking Control of the Internet workshop. The overall workshop evaluations overwhelmingly rated the workshop as excellent (50 excellent to 5 good and 1 fair).

 

OLA Conference Planning Committee - 1999-2000

Three UCD members present at the meeting volunteered to be on the OLA conference planning committee for the 1999-2000 year and they are: Sheila Johnson, Barbara Bradley and Alan Lawless. The OLA Conference Planning Committee (for UCD) must submit preliminary plans for offerings by September 1999 and final plans by November 1999. Peggy Wolfe has agreed to chair the Posters and presentations planning committee again for the 1999-2000 year.

 

Electronic Communications Committee - 1999-2000

Charles Brooks has agreed to chair the Electronic Communication Committee again for the 1999-2000 year and Jonathan Woltz will also be on that committee.

 

Nominating Committee - 1999-2000

The nominating Committee needs a chair elect and a vice chair. Kay Boise needs the ballot by August 15. It is hoped that Tom Bain might be chair of this committee.

 

Salary Survey Committee - 1999-2000

Barbara Bradley, past chair will continue on the Salary Survey Committee along with Pat Williams and Kate Corbett.

Workshop Discussion

Sheila Johnson recommended and the UCD attendees agreed that it would be a good idea to repeat the excellent workshop Learning to Control the Internet in October. Hopefully the O.U. Health Science Center Library will host the event again. Sheila was hopeful that most of the panelists could do this encore workshop again. One recommendation was to use more email to contact members on workshop offerings. We will also have a second workshop sponsored by UCD in the spring, probably in March. Possible topics mentioned include distance learning; electronic journals and remote authentication; grant writing; electronic citations (how to cite, as well as plagiarism); and public relations and marketing.

OLA Budget Request

The OLA budget request for the University and College Division is due by the end of June.

Future UCD Meetings

The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, July 13 at 1:00 p.m. at OSU-Tulsa.

The September meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, September 14 at 1:00 p.m. at the OSU Library.
