IV. Committee Reports

A. Nominating committee - Report by Ann Blakely.

So far, there is one candidate for chair-elect and one for secretary. The deadline is December.

B. Salary survey - Report by Barbara Bradley.

The results sent to Kay Boies about academic libraries entry level salary survey:
  • 36,800 - highest (2 years experience)
  • 23,000 - lowest (1 year experience)
  • 29, 265 average
  • 29,000 median
At the next meeting, BARBARA will report on a comparison of the last 2 years' salaries and this year's results. She will also investigate providing a write-up for the Oklahoma Librarian.

C. Electronic - Report by Jon Woltz.

Jon is looking for a site for the web pages for UCD. He is also working with some design modification of the pages. Minutes of UCD meetings should be sent to Charles Brooks for posting (for the present).

For the OLA web page (to which UCD is linked), there will probably be some changes forthcoming.

D. Conference Program A - Buried Treasures II.*

Tentative Time Slot: Friday 3 to 4:30.

RETHA will send the title change to Rachel Butler.

BARBARA will take care of submitting the OLA paperwork required for the program. She will also follow up with RRT about roles for those members for the co-sponsorship.

E. Conference Program B - Tell It Like It Really is:.Statistics* - Report by Ann Blakely.

Tentative Time Slot: Thursday, 3:45 to 5:15.

Co-Sponsor: OASLMS (ANN will follow up about the sponsorship.)

RETHA will send the title change to Rachel Butler.

ANN will take care of submitting the OLA paperwork required for the program.

This program may be shortened to an hour and 15 minutes rather than an hour and a half. There is also discussion at the OLA Planning level about the length of all slots for Conference.

For the public library component, Jan Keene coordinates statistics at TCCL, and she will speak and will bring some other staff members to speak. Ann will speak on academic libraries.

National ARL new reporting procedures on statistics will not be forthcoming for a year or more, but there is much interest in an OLA program on the topic.

F. Papers and posters presentations* - Report by David Oberhelman.

Tentative Time Slots: Thursday posters 11 to noon and 3:15 - 3:45; papers 1:45-3:15. Friday posters 10:30 - 11:00 and papers 9 - 10:30 and 1:15 - 2:45.

Julia Crawford distributed flyers at the OLA/ACRL conference held this month. There is a need for more public and school poster sessions.

The Committee will meet again before the Christmas holidays.

G. Spring workshop - Report by Retha.

Carolyn Warmann has been moving ahead with work on this workshop. Tom Thorisch will probably be one of the presenters. The Committee will meet this month. The workshop will still need to be approved by the OLA Board.

DATE: May 15 at OSU Tulsa.

V. Other business and/or announcements.

OLA Conference speakers are Dr.Robin Meyers as the Thursday morning keynote speaker and Dr. Jim Boren as the Friday night banquet speaker. The Thursday night event will be a silent auction and the Oklahoma Gridiron program of skits.

Ardmore, November 17, 10 a.m., will be the next OLA Planning Session, and Retha has a conflict. She asked for a volunteer to attend, and ANN and DAVID might be able to attend.

ANN will try to e-mail the UCD membership, reminding them of our listserv for UCD, and encouraging them to subscribe to it. Hopefully more members will then see the meeting announcements and attend our meetings.

VI. Sites and dates for next meetings

December 5, Stillwater Public Library (tentative), 1:30 p.m. CAROLYN Warmann is checking on this reservation.

University of Tulsa, January 30 (Tuesday), at 1:30.

*NOTE: Screens, overhead projectors, and LCD can be provided by OLA (not laptops); only one room will have an Internet connection, and the UCD programs are not scheduled for that room.

Respectfully submitted,
