Minutes of Committee Meeting

Rose State College

July 19, 2005

 I.          Call to order:

            The meeting was called to order by Melissa Huffman at 10:00 a.m.

            In attendance: Melissa Huffman, David Oberhelman, Barbara Miller, Danny Wallace, and Cheryl McCain

 II.         Schedule of meetings for the remainder of 2005; tentative topics and locations:

            August 23^rd – 10:00 a.m. at Rose State College.

                        Danny will speak about the SLIS accreditation process.

            September 20^th – possibly a videoconference.

                        Discuss August 16^th COIL workshop on teaching & learning styles.

            October 18^th – at Stillwater Public Library. Barbara will ask Rucilla Harm at Stillwater Public Library to speak about her computer literacy classes.    November 15^th – possibly a videoconference.

            December 20^th – lunch meeting at a restaurant in Oklahoma City .  

III.       Conference and workshop ideas:

            Pros & cons of having people submit program ideas through OLA website.

            Plan joint meetings and/or co-sponsor events with COIL and/or UCD. 

            How to incorporate a wider variety of resources when teaching.

            Workshop on “lateral thinking” – possibly an OLA preconference.

            “Bridging the Distances” – conference program on videoconferencing: “how-to,” desktop-to-desktop applications, technical requirements, who to contact for assistance, etc.

            “Instruction Coordinator” – What one is, what one does, and do you need one?

                        Conference session or table talk.

            Accessibility guidelines for web pages – panel made up of Connie Van Fleet, a technical expert (Charles), and someone who is visually impaired.

                        Co-sponsor with OLA’s IT Roundtable?

            From staff to professional librarian: how to prepare for library school. Recruiting and mentoring support staff, teachers, etc. An idea for Encyclomedia?

            Co-sponsor with UCD: Workshop on knowledge management with Prof. Suliman Hawamdeh; February 10^th, 2006, at Tulsa Best Western.

IV.       LED website updates will be handled by Danny Wallace: calendar of activities, minutes of meetings, list of officers, links to library education programs, etc.

 V.        Other business:

            Nominating committee (Barbara) for next year’s chair-elect and secretary.

            Invite all LED members to attend monthly meetings and view the minutes online.

VI.       Adjournment: The meeting ended at 11:45 a.m.
