Minutes of Committee Meeting

September 20, 2005

via Videoconference

 I.          Call to order:

             The meeting was called to order by Melissa Huffman at 10:00 a.m.

             In attendance: Melissa Huffman, Danny Wallace, Cheryl McCain, David Oberhelman,   Barbara Miller, and Jao-Ming Huang.

II.         Approval of Minutes: The minutes of the August 23^rd meeting were approved.

 III.       Conference programs update:

• Further discussion on the “Bridging the Distance” pre-conference/videoconference. There are at least 6 other OLA pre-conferences being planned, so we may need to present this topic as a 1-hour program instead. Doing it as a regular program will allow us to assess people’s interest and possibly have a workshop on it next year. If we scale it back to a regular program, Danny said he would handle the program. Melissa’s recommendation was to keep both options alive until the October meeting and see if others drop out of the pre-conference slots.

• Melissa is going to contact Connie Van Fleet about the content of the program on website accessibility and ADA compliance. Michael O’Hasson (ODL) has not been contacted yet. Today Melissa emailed Angie Brunk at ECU in Ada about participating.

• Advertise the table talk on instruction coordinators to all appropriate librarians, especially those who are not active in LED.

• There was discussion on the idea to have a panel of 3 individuals speak about making the transition from staff to professional librarian. Mary Kirk (Rose State) said she would be a panelist.

• Danny reported that Dr. Latrobe (OU SLIS) is interested in leading a table talk on library school reaccreditation.

IV.       Next meeting:

            In Stillwater on October 18^th, Rucilla Harm will speak about the computer literacy classes she teaches at Stillwater Public Library.

V.        Other business:

• Barbara mentioned that the OLA bylaws need to be amended to allow electronic communication, specifically online voting and meetings by videoconference.

• Danny requested information about Rucilla to add to an announcement on the LED website about next month’s meeting.

• Barbara and Deborah Thompson will be giving their Encyclomedia presentation at the COIL meeting at UCO on September 30^th.

• There was a brief discussion of the recent COIL workshop, “But are They Learning?”  

• Barbara reported the status of the nominations for next years’ officers.

• David reminded us about the knowledge management workshop to be held in February. We are co-sponsoring with UCD, and he will find out what we can do to help.
